Manchester United have been presented with a variety of stadium options as they look to improve the current, ageing Old Trafford.

According to Mike Keegan, these include the complete demolition of the Theatre of Dreams and building a brand-new home.

It was in April last year when leading consultants Legends International and Populous were appointed onto the project. They were in charge of Tottenham Hotspur’s incredible new stadium plans.

Should United opt to go on a similar route, they would be able to continue playing at Old Trafford whilst work on the new stadium is being done.

It would most likely be built on the acres of club-owned land surrounding the current stadium.

The report explained that this option would cost the club close to £2 billion.

The other major option for The Reds is to refurbish Old Trafford, an option that many fans are in favour of.

The 112-year-old stadium is a cornerstone in the club’s — and English football’s — history. However, this would not be a simple approach.

Whilst there would be an obvious increase on the existing 74,000 capacity inside the ground, a major focus in this option would be the improvement of the corporate hospitality, where there is a high demand.

This plan would end up costing United north of £1 billion.

However, ultimately, the report included that these plans are effectively on hold, with new owners of the club being likely to make the final decision. The Glazer family confirmed their intent to find new investment for the club, which could include a full sale, late last year.

No final costs have been presented, with the above figures being an indication of the finances needed to make the changes — it is thought that interested parties in taking over the club will be provided access to the plans and likely costs involved.
