Gary Neville disagrees with reports of Manchester United introducing a salary cap of £200,000-a-week amongst their squad.

The former United captain does not believe that The Reds should be introducing “radical policies” whilst the Glazers are selling the club and new owners could be entering the fray.

“Not sure why any radical new policy is being introduced IF new owners are imminent,” tweeted Neville.

It is believed that Erik ten Hag and CEO Richard Arnold hope to keep a strong squad harmony and avoid jealousy amongst the players with this rule.

However, Neville believes this move will price United out of some of the top talent across Europe.

“Capping wages is a radical policy,” he continued. “Rules out Rice, Bellingham and others in that bracket.

“Any new owners would probably want to enter the running for these types and probably Mbappe as well. 200k won’t get you Rice or Bellingham let alone Mbappe!”

United supporters, for the most part, are happy about the change after years of overpaying players who moved to Old Trafford for the wrong reasons.

Others believe that United should instead ensure they only pay top talents the highest wages.

“The club have bought an unimaginable number of players in recent years who have not been good enough,” added Ten Hag this week.

“Most purchases have been average, and at United, average is not good enough. United’s shirt weighs heavily. Only real personalities, who can perform under great pressure, can play here.”
