Manchester United’s 2022 was a year full of drama, intrigue and plot twists – but the biggest storyline came late in December, when the Glazer family announced their intentions to ‘find new investment’.

Since that announcement, which was taken to mean the Glazers are looking to sell the club, Manchester United rumours have been rife with respect to who may take over the club’s operations.

Many names have been mentioned, from Sir Jim Ratcliffe to buyers from the Middle East – and the latest in a long line of names is Qatar Sports Investments.

Qatar, the recent hosts of the 2022 World Cup that saw Lisandro Martinez lift the famed trophy in December, are seemingly looking to invest themselves in Premier League football, following in the footsteps of Abu Dhabi and Saudi Arabia, who own Manchester City and Newcastle United, respectively.

Qatar already have a large investment in European football, owning French powerhouse PSG, and it was reported on Monday evening that QSI are looking for options to invest in English football.

The report by Bloomberg UK revealed that QSI after their successful hosting of the World Cup, Manchester United, Liverpool, and Tottenham are among the clubs that they may target for investment.

It further stated that this investment could be a full takeover or a partial investment.

However, this report was later contradicted by Martyn Ziegler, Chief Sports Writer for The Times, who claimed that as they have no intention to sell PSG, any investment in a Premier League club would be a minority stake.

He also revealed that QSI are not planning on investing in either of Manchester United or Liverpool.

Avram Glazer was spotted in Qatar on multiple occasions within the last six weeks, visiting the country for the World Cup tournament and being spotted on December 30th.

It was reported that he was in Qatar to talk to potential investors, however with this news that Qatar will not be investing in United any time soon, it’s easy to draw a conclusion to how said meeting panned out.
