According to a new report, Manchester United are open to serious offers for a number of their high-profile young talents this summer, including Danish striker Rasmus Højlund.

Rasmus Højlund’s first 18 months at Manchester United have seen the striker produce some wonderful strings of form amid poor performances and injuries.

Signed from Atalanta for around £72 million in the summer of 2023, Højlund started life well in the Champions League, scoring five goals in five games, but it took him 14 Premier League appearances to net his first in domestic competition.

However, the player went on to score seven league games in a row, becoming the youngest to do so in Premier League history at the age of 20, and he finished the season with 16 goals, the highest in the United squad.

But, he suffered from multiple injuries during that period, too, missing 11 games through hamstring and back problems.

Under Rúben Amorim, the Danish international scored five goals in his first five appearances but has failed to score in the last six games despite starting five of them.

United make Højlund transfer decision

Last summer, Højlund was considered one of four “untouchable” players at Old Trafford, with the side not entertaining any offers for Kobbie Mainoo, Alejandro Garnacho, André Onana, or the 21-year-old.

However, according to The Guardian, United have now changed this viewpoint, with the club now willing to listen to serious offers for anyone in Amorim’s current squad, with Højlund highlighted as one of those players.

United’s decision comes from their poor profit and sustainability position, which leaves them dangerously close to serious repercussions from the Premier League.

Those such as Everton have already discovered the punishment for breaching thresholds, with points deductions and fines a severe scenario should United not relieve the situation.

What is Højlund’s current transfer value?

A number of factors must be considered when determining a player’s transfer value, and the CIES Football Observatory developed “a statistical model to assess the transfer value of professional football players on a scientific basis.”

Using a number of factors such as age, contract length, previous transfer fees, actual values of other transfers, and more, CIES have determined that Højlund is the most valuable player in the current United squad.

Their tool estimates that the Danish striker’s value sits at between £76 million and £96 million, which puts him as one of the most valuable players in world football.

However, Højlund would not be as attractive to sell as a player like Marcus Rashford because, although he would go for a higher price, his fee would not be counted as profit on their books.

Rashford, as an academy player, would represent pure profit on the club’s financial accounts, whereas Højlund’s sale would have to be considered in tandem to the price they paid for him.
