Two former Premier League strikers have agreed on a “fantastic” boost that Rasmus Højlund will receive once he returns from his holiday to Manchester United.

Rasmus Højlund‘s inaugural season at Manchester United was a rollercoaster. He impressed with his scoring ability, finishing as the club’s top goal-getter with 16 in all competitions, including five in the Champions League. His efforts were instrumental in United’s FA Cup success.

On the international front, Højlund encountered difficulties with Denmark at the 2024 European Championships. The team failed to secure a win and was eliminated by Germany, the host nation.

Despite the intense pressure at only 20 years old, Højlund justified the £72 million transfer fee from Atalanta, showcasing his immense talent and potential that he can hopefully bring forward into the 2024/25 season and beyond.

Højlund is currently away on three week’s holiday following Denmark’s exit from the 2024 European Championships, and once he returns to United’s Carrington training base, he will be greeted by what two Premier League legendary strikers agree is a brilliant boost.

Ruud van Nistelrooy has been handed a new role at Old Trafford as part of Ten Hag’s coaching staff. Having scored 150 goals in 219 appearances for the Red Devils, Van Nistelrooy will be able to help Højlund improve and “enhance” his game, according to Alan Shearer.

“That can only enhance and help Højlund because Ruud van Nistelrooy has been there, he’s worn the shirt at Old Trafford,” Shearer told BetFair. “Højlund working with him on the training ground is only going to improve him.

“In really difficult circumstances for Hojlund last season, I think there’s definitely something to work with there. It was around 16 goals he got in the end, which is a decent return for how tough it had been for him and a lot of his teammates for most of the season.”

Former Old Trafford goalscorer Andy Cole agrees with this. Speaking with Betfred, Cole explained that the “fantastic” goalscorer can help anyone improve and is a big plus for those such as Højlund.

“Ruud’s a good guy, and his managerial career has gone very well so far,” Cold told BetFred. “Ruud can help anybody improve.

“I’ve always thought really highly of him because he’s a fantastic goalscorer and I think with him going into the club, he will be a big plus for any of the attacking players there.”
