Rasmus Højlund and Kobbie Mainoo were among Manchester United players to make a smart dressing room decision that seems to be benefiting the club.

The United pairing, alongside Alejandro Garnacho, have been some of the most important players for Erik ten Hag in recent weeks.

With five wins in their last six, the OId Trafford club appear to be making progress after a difficult start to the season.

A young core group of players have emerged as important members of the squad. Garnacho, Højlund and Mainoo are consistent starters, with the likes of Omari Forson, Amad Diallo and Willy Kambwala becoming regulars in the squad.

Earlier this month, after the victory against Wolves, Højlund explained that the group of youngsters within the squad have made an online group chat to help build comradery within the squad.

“We enjoy spending time together,” £72m summer signing Hojlund told TNT Sports. “The young guys have a little group where we’re chatting to each other, and it’s very cool to have other young players around the team.

“Hopefully, we can set an era for the club and be here many years together. If you’re good enough, you’re old enough, and I think that’s a good thing. We’re here for a reason.”

With INEOS set to take over footballing control at the club, these kinds of young players building positive relationships can only be positive for the team. It is already looking like there is an impact.

Sir Dave Brailsford is obsessed with “marginal gains” and these are the kinds of moves which will fall in line with those ideas.

It will also prove crucial for the rest of the season, with many of the talented players expected to play a big part in United’s push for the top four in the Premier League.
