Premier League legend Alan Shearer has given Jadon Sancho some great advice as he backs Manchester United’s decision to send him on loan to Borussia Dortmund.

Sancho, 23, moved back to Germany earlier this month after being exiled from the United first-team squad for around four months.

A public disagreement between the player and manager Erik ten Hag, in which Sancho accused the Dutchman of making him a “scapegoat” after he was dropped from a matchday squad to face Arsenal.

There have been many supporters who are conflicted over who was in the wrong. Yet, Shearer believes that a move was needed for Sancho no matter what.

The former Newcastle striker made the point that a career in football is short, and with so much time away from the pitch already, Sancho needs to focus on being on the pitch as much as possible now after his loan was confirmed.

“I think it was best for both parties that he got out of Old Trafford because quite clearly there was a wedge between him and the manager,” he told The Rest is Football podcast. “The manager had his point, the player had his point. They weren’t prepared to meet in the middle.

“So he is best off out of the football club and get out and play football because if you get 15 years in football, you’ve been really lucky. So to sit around, not because of an injury, but because of an argument with the manager, then it’s far too long.

“He needed to get out and he needs to start playing football again. Good to see him back and good to see him coming on with an assist but he’s lost what, five or six months of football? So that’s not gonna be easy to get back in the swing of things.”

Sancho made his return to the pitch as he came on as a second-half substitute for Dortmund last weekend. He assisted Marco Reus to put the Yellow and Blacks 2-0 up.

“I feel like it was meant to be,” Sancho said after the game. “Me coming back and seeing Marco again. He’s a great friend of mine, and I’m happy to set up his goal today.”
