Predicted Manchester United line-up vs Wolves – three changes made, Amad at wing-back
Rúben Amorim is predicted to make two changes as Manchester United travel to face Wolves in the Premier League on Boxing Day.
Rúben Amorim is desperate to steady the ship after Manchester United endured a tough week, suffering two consecutive defeats that highlighted their ongoing struggles.
The week started with hope after a thrilling victory over Manchester City, but United followed it with a 4-3 Carabao Cup loss to Tottenham and a disappointing 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth at Old Trafford.
These results have left United in 13th place, marking the club’s lowest-ever position on Christmas Day in Premier League history.
Next up is a Boxing Day clash against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux. Wolves, sitting 18th, have shown signs of resurgence under new manager Vítor Pereira, who made an instant impact with a commanding 3-0 win over Leicester City.
Amorim predicted to make two United changes
Amorim may make two changes to his Manchester United line-up against Wolves as he tinkers with the side that fell against Bournemouth last weekend.
André Onana will continue in goal as he has done in the Premier League since he arrived in 2023, but ahead of him, Amorim may choose to swap out Harry Maguire for Leny Yoro.
The 39-year-old was quick to mention on the weekend that he has to manage Maguire’s minutes, and with Matthijs de Ligt potentially still ill and Victor Lindelöf injured, Yoro is the natural replacement unless Amorim wants to field Jonny Evans from the start.
Noussair Mazraoui has become essential to the starting teams of late and may continue as the right centre-back. At the same time, Lisandro Martínez remains the only available player best suited to the left centre-back position.
Amorim may reinstate Amad Diallo at wing-back if he wants to return to his system of playing a winger as one of his two wide players as it offers more attacking threat.
Diogo Dalot has played a lot of minutes of late, while Tyrell Malacia played 45 against Bournemouth, meaning Malacia and Amad may be the two wide players.
In midfield, Manuel Ugarte played 55 minutes on the weekend, so could be fit and rested enough to start away in Wolverhampton, while Kobbie Mainoo is the only other logical choice to partner him as Bruno Fernandes will have to play further forward.
Mason Mount is injured, and many expect Marcus Rashford not to be involved, which leaves club captain Fernandes and Alejandro Garnacho as the main attacking options to fill the advanced midfield positions.
Rasmus Højlund may be reinstated over Joshua Zirkzee as he striker because he provides a more potent threat on the counter-attack away from home.
United’s predicted XI vs Wolves
Onana, Mazraoui, Yoro, Martínez, Amad, Ugarte, Mainoo, Malacia, Amad, Garnacho, Højlund.
