Paul Scholes has singled out two Manchester United starlets that he is really excited about this coming season, with Erik ten Hag getting into pre-season.

Manchester United have played two pre-season fixtures so far this summer as Erik ten Hag prepares his squad for the first full season under INEOS‘ new regime.

The club have already announced the signings of Joshua Zirkzee and Leny Yoro from Lille and are believed to be continuing to work on further deals for a new midfielder, centre-back, and potentially left-back.

However, outgoings are going to be needed in order to raise further cash for signings, but this has not stopped former United midfielder and club legend Paul Scholes from being excited about how the new season is developing under Ten Hag.

Scholes specifically cited the two new signings, especially Yoro, as his reasoning, but he has warned the club that they must look to keep their players fit after injuries decimated the club in 2023/24.

“I’m really excited for the new season. It’s difficult to tell because the two signings are young players – especially the lad from France (Yoro), but he’s got plenty of time to bed himself in before the season starts,” Scholes told MailOnline.

“The big thing for United is keeping players from last season fit. It was a real struggle to have a full squad and some of the performances last season showed the impact that had. But if these two signings are right and we get a bit more experience in with them, then I’m hoping for a good season,” Scholes added.

The 49-year-old then went on to add that Mainoo is another “brilliant” starlet that he is very excited to see continue his career but that United must continue to look after the 19-year-old midfielder following his 2024 European Championship exploits with England.

“I’ve said this before (about Mainoo). I’ve never seen a kid come on the scene and be so calm and relaxed and just so brilliant at everything he does,” said Scholes

“He’s (Mainoo’s) only 30 or 40 games into his first-team career, and then to go and start for England at the Euros and be brilliant. It just bodes well for the future. The kid is an amazing talent, and we need to look after him.”
