Paul Scholes has changed his tune on Manchester United winger Antony after he produced his ‘best game’ for the club in the 2-0 win against Everton.

The victory was comfortable for Erik ten Hag’s men, who created 29 shooting opportunities and should’ve won by more.

Scholes, 48, has been vocal in his criticism of summer signing Antony, who he called a ‘clown’ after the Brazilian used his trademark skill move in a Europa League game earlier this season.

Antony has struggled to hit the ground running in the Premier League but still has seven goals and one assist so far this term.

He has still been important for The Reds, however, offering key attributes on the right wing for Ten Hag’s side. In recent games, the wide man has shown improvements with the ball at his feet – looking to also reach the touchline as well as cutting inside to shoot or cross.

“That’s the best game I’ve seen Antony play for United,” Scholes explained on BT Sport. “I thought he was a bit of a one-trick pony but he’s learnt to actually run through and he did that a couple of times today.”

The attacking trio of Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford and Antony has looked promising in the last two games. Whilst Bruno Fernandes has adapted to a deeper role impressively.

United completely controlled both games against Brentford and Everton following a spell of games where performances had dropped below standards.

Still, United’s main man remains to be Rashford, who assisted Martial before coming off due to an injury on Saturday. He has scored 28 goals for the club so far this campaign.

“Rashford has been brilliant this season. You never quite know with Marcus, he does tend to go down quite a bit with injuries and makes a miraculous recovery,” added Scholes. “I’m just hoping it’s a bit of fatigue or cramp.

“United were really dominant, Bruno was as good as I’ve seen him in that deeper role, he controlled play. It was quite a comfortable afternoon for Maguire.”
