Paul Scholes has detailed how Manchester United can help Jadon Sancho find the form that he had prior to his Old Trafford move at Borussia Dortmund.

Sancho, 22, was one of the hottest prospects in Europe during his time in Germany but has been unable to recreate that form on a consistent basis for The Reds.

Following his return to the side at the start of last month, Sancho has produced some impressive moments, but Scholes believes we are not seeing the best version of the attacking playmaker.

The former United midfielder believes that Sancho would thrive if Erik ten Hag’s side had more players around him to make runs, like he did at Dortmund, citing the importance of the relationship he had with Achrif Hakimi on the right side of the pitch at the Signal Iduna Park.

The 48-year-old also detailed that Sancho offers different attributes to the other wingers at the club, who are more direct and quick.

“I still think there’s a lot more to come from him,” Scholes said on BT Sport after United’s 1-0 win against Real Betis. “He’s had his issues and problems that the manager dealt with, he came back and scored a couple of goals.

“I still think there’s a player in there, I just think he needs the right players around him.”

“I remember at Dortmund, he had a flying right-back going on all the time which really helps him because he’s not a quick player, he’s more of a skilful player who wants to play football, he wants to play with his centre-forward and with his right-back.

Both Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Diogo Dalot have played their fair share of games alongside Sancho but neither have been able to develop an offensive relationship with him.

Scholes added that a potential solution could be to bring in a right-sided full-back in the coming transfer market.

“So if United can possibly find a better right-back it might make him a different proposition,” he added.
