“Open…” Cole Palmer’s stunning stance on Manchester United transfer, Rúben Amorim is “serious” about deal

Chelsea star Cole Palmer’s stance on a stunning transfer to Manchester United has been revealed amid a claim he could be perfect for Rúben Amorim.

Manchester United’s upcoming summer transfer window is shaping up to be crucial, with manager Ruben Amorim reportedly seeking reinforcements across the entire squad.

The forward line is one key area that needs strengthening. Rasmus Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee have struggled for consistency this season, combining for just seven Premier League goals.

Numerous players have been linked to Old Trafford, so the club is expected to be highly active in the transfer market. Wolves’ forward Matheus Cunha is likely to sign for the club once the window opens, while United are also thought to be chasing Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap.

With several departures expected this coming summer transfer window, strong replacements in key areas are needed to improve their dismal Premier League form ahead of next season.

Palmer’s stunning United transfer stance explained

One name that has emerged recently is Cole Palmer, who has fallen out of form at Chelsea following the turn of the new year, scoring and assisting only six times in that time.

Although Palmer has gone off the boil since the turn of 2025, his 33 goal involvements in 34 games last Premier League term that earned him the PFA Young Player of the Year cannot be underestimated.

When speaking on Sky Sports’ Back Pages show, via Tribal Football, transfer specialist Miguel Delaney explained Amorim’s team would “seriously” try for the player if possible.

Palmer himself would be open to what would be a stunning deal, although it’s not a move that would happen this summer.

“So many clubs would want Cole Palmer, and Manchester United are one who would, if there was any sort of possibility, they’d seriously go for him,” Delaney explained.

“I think he would be open to it, but really, there’s no possibility to happen this summer.”

Palmer already has strong links to the Reds, with him growing up as a Manchester United fan and saying how he used to watch matches at Old Trafford.

Palmer would be perfect for Amorim

Although he doesn’t look likely to be leaving Stamford Bridge this summer, Champions League football is a major sticking point for where the 23-year-old could end up at the start of next season. The race for fourth place is all to play for, with Chelsea and two other sides finding themselves tied on 63 points.

While Bruno Fernandes has been United’s stand-out player yet again this season, the 30-year-old isn’t getting any younger, and Palmer could be the perfect successor to the Portuguese playmaker.

Palmer’s extraordinary ability to unlock defences from out wide or from centrally, where he’s played most of the time this season at Chelsea, would greatly benefit Amorim’s tactical set-up, which deploys two central number tens.

While Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea do not deploy the 3-4-2-1 formation, he is still young enough to adapt to a role as one of the two number tens, or even out on the wing, where he has played previously.
