“On my mind…” Elliot Anderson breaks silence amid £100m Manchester United transfer links

Elliot Anderson has spoken ahead of Nottingham Forest’s Europa League tie regarding the rumours linking him with a £100million move to Manchester United.

Manchester United have won 16 points from a possible 18 in the Premier League under the management of Michael Carrick, and now sit fourth in the table after 27 games.

Their most recent bout game against Everton on Monday night, where the Reds managed to snatch a close-fought 1-0 victory, thanks to a Benjamin Šeško finish.

These recent results have put United in good standing for a UEFA Champions League spot, which may lead the side to invest heavily once the summer transfer window swings around.

The Red Devils will need to replace the departing Casemiro, who is set to leave the club in the summer once his contract expires, and Elliot Anderson has emerged as a leading candidate for the role.

Anderson speaks on United links

When speaking ahead of Nottingham Forest’s Europa League play-off second leg with Fenerbahce, Anderson briefly talked about the rumours linking him with a departure from the Tricky Trees.

Anderson said, via Chronicle Live, “I’m just focusing on my football at the moment and performing and trying to give everything for Nottingham Forest, really.

“So that’s all that’s on my mind. It’s been a big two years. I think I’ve done pretty well, to be honest, in the time I’ve been here, on and off the pitch.

“I think I’ve matured as a person as well. Thanks to the club, really, for giving me that platform, going out there and playing and letting me do my stuff.”

Would Anderson fill Casemiro’s void?

With United’s veteran midfielder, Casemiro, set to depart the Reds in the summer, Carrick’s side will be forced to venture into the transfer market to replace the Brazilian.

The holding midfielder has managed to turn his fortunes around over the past year at Old Trafford, and has been instrumental to his side’s recent run of impressive form.

Although extremely talented, it can be questioned whether Anderson would fill the void left by Casemiro or whether Anderson would better suit the role currently occupied by Kobbie Mainoo.

It remains a possibility that United could acquire more than one midfielder in the summer, with them also being linked to players such as Carlos Baleba and Sandro Tonali, although this will likely depend on whether they achieve a top-four finish.
