Many Manchester United fans have been worried that new CEO Omar Berrada may be implicated in the Premier League’s 115 charges against his former club, Manchester City.

Manchester United have seen a whole host of changes occur since Sir Jim Ratcliffe had his 27.7% acquisition of the Old Trafford club confirmed.

Aside from on-the-field changes, the United boardroom has had a complete makeover, with several new faces joining the club, including new CEO Omar Berrada, new technical director Jason Wilcox, and new sporting director Dan Ashworth.

However, there have been some worries that Berrada and Wilcox, who previously worked at Manchester City, could be implicated in the 115 charges that have been brought against their former club by the Premier League.

What are the 115 charges?

Man City have been charged with a whole host of alleged rule-breaking, most of which relate to associated party transactions and a despite over sponsorships. Essentially, Man City have been accused of overinflating sponsorship deals.

The story goes that other companies owned or associated with the club’s owners have been overpaying for sponsorship deals, which allows said owners to funnel extra cash into their club, speeding up organic growth.

Berrada worked as the club’s director of partnerships before becoming City’s chief football operations officer and as the group commercial director over a 13-year stint.

This has led many to feel that he may have been involved in the alleged rule-breaking dealings that City is said to have undergone.

Similarly, Wilcox also worked as the club’s academy director for a period, and any attachment to Man City could be alarming for United due to the ongoing investigation.

However, according to The Telegraph, United are confident that neither Berrada nor Wilcox will be implicated in the ongoing process.

It is explained that there is no evidence of wrongdoing on Berrada’s part and that United will not suffer if City is found guilty. The same applies to Wilcox.

The tribunal surrounding City is expected to last around ten weeks, with a verdict expected in the new year.
