Ole Gunnar Solskjær issues immediate reaction to Rúben Amorim Man Utd sacking as message sent

As the shortlist for interim managers continues to grow at Manchester United, Ole Gunnar Solskjær has reportedly become open to a return to the side he managed for two and a half years.

Manchester United’s 1–1 draw against Leeds at Elland Road ultimately marked the end of Rúben Amorim’s tenure at the club.

In a tense post-match press conference, Amorim voiced his frustration over what he perceived as a lack of authority, stressing that he wanted to “be the manager of Manchester United, not the coach of Manchester United.”

He also directed criticism toward Director of Football Jason Wilcox and appeared to take a subtle swipe at Director of Scouting Christopher Vivell, insisting that both departments “need to do their job.”

Despite receiving public backing from INEOS earlier in the season, the remarks proved decisive, and Amorim was relieved of his duties on Monday morning.

Solskjær open to Man Utd return

As reported by Manchester World, they understand that Ole Gunnar Solskjær would be open to a move to Manchester United, but only on a caretaker basis until the end of the season.

While it’s not clear whether he will feature on the club’s shortlist for the caretaker role, the message that he would be interested in discussions about a shock return to his former side is clear.

The Norwegian has been out of managerial work after being sacked by Turkish side Besiktas in August, his first job since leaving Old Trafford in November 2021.

With there being just four days between the game against Burnley and their FA Cup tie against Brighton & Hove Albion, INEOS will be working around the clock to identify their caretaker manager for the rest of the season.

Solskjær would be a solid option

Solskjær was brought in to Manchester United at a time when the fans’ attitudes towards the club had soured after José Mourinho’s destructive end to his tenure in charge of the club, fielding players out of position in protest of not getting his desired transfers.

The striker who scored the famous winner in the 1999 Champions League final was brought in to lift the atmosphere at Old Trafford, and he did just that, going on an 11-match unbeaten run that included 10 wins.

While he was originally only meant to be a stopgap solution to Man Utd’s troubles, his efforts were rewarded with a three-year contract, with his side finishing in second and third in his two full seasons at the club. He also reached five semi-finals out of six in cup competitions, including a run to the final of the Europa League.

While things soured towards the end of his tenure, Solskjær has consistently remained a favourite among the fans, and he could be a good choice to guide the club to a top-six finish.
