Nick Pope RED CARD hands Man United huge boost ahead of Carabao Cup final: Newcastle missing TWO goalkeepers
Nick Pope was sent off for Newcastle United in their Premier League encounter against Liverpool and will be suspended for the Carabao Cup final against Manchester United next week.
Eddie Howe’s team lost 2-0 against Liverpool on Saturday, giving United the potential to make an eight-point gap between the pair in the top four.
Pope had attempted to sweep a long ball towards Mo Salah before slipping and committing a clear handball offence.
The red card for Newcastle’s goalkeeper is a major blow for The Magpies ahead of the Carabao Cup final and a big boost for Erik ten Hag’s side as each team search to end a trophy drought.
The English international has arguably been the best goalkeeper in the Premier League this season, helping his team keep 12 clean sheets so far in the league this term.
Martin Dubravka is also cup-tied for the final after appearing in the competition with United before he was recalled from his loan at Old Trafford.
It’s likely that former Liverpool goalkeeper Lord Karius will be between the sticks for the team in black and white at Wembley.
United fans will know him best for his capitulation in the Champions League final against Real Madrid in 2018. He was sent on two loans after that season before moving to St James’ Park at the start of this campaign.
