“My expectation…” – Fabrizio Romano reveals full details after André Onana bid from Trabzonspor

Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on Andre Onana’s Manchester United future after the club received an official offer from Trabzonspor.

Andre Onana was once considered an exciting signing at Manchester United, but his struggles to do the basics since joining the club have led to his current situation at Old Trafford.

With Senne Lammens joining the club, Onana has now been pushed down to third-choice goalkeeper, as Altay Bayindir began the season as Rúben Amorim’s starting shotstopper.

United received an official offer from Trabzonspor in recent days, and Onana could still leave United because the Turkish transfer window remains open for the time being.

The Cameroonian hasn’t spoken about the offer, but transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has revealed where his future could lie.

Romano provides Onana update

Speaking on his YouTube Channel, Romano said: “My understanding that the deal for Andre Onana to Trabzonspor has a very, very, very good chances to happen.

“My expectation is for a deal to happen. The deal is being negotiated on the player’s side, and there is an agreement [between clubs]… for a loan deal, no buy-option clause, no loan fee, so the agreement club-to-club, Manchester United to Trabzonspor, is done.

“Andre Onana is open to that possibility, open to joining Trabzonspor, open to trying a new opportunity, so now it’s about the contract details.”

Romano went on to say: “Rúben Amorim has been clear with the Manchester United management, the Manchester United board, and with Andre Onana. Rúben Amorim doesn’t see Andre Onana as the starting goalkeeper for Manchester United this season.

“Manchester United brought in Senne Lammens and the understanding is that Rúben Amorim and Manchester United management is they invested in Senne Lammens, they believe that the Belgian goalkeeper can be the next big thing.”

Bayindir needs to show why he’s been kept

Bayindir has started every Premier League game so far this season, and looks set to start against Manchester City, despite Lammens joining the club.

The Turkish shotstopper has impressed with his distribution this season, but his actual shotstopping has been simply dreadful. This cannot continue if he wants to continue as Amorim’s first choice.

His ability to claim crosses isn’t good enough for a United goalkeeper, much like Onana. If Lammens can prove himself in training this week, it may not be long before he is chosen ahead of Bayindir.
