Mauricio Pochettino delivers clear 7-word response on future after Man United update
Mauricio Pochettino has provided an update on his managerial future following links to the Manchester United job.
The ongoing saga between Pochettino and Manchester United has been a subject of speculation for several years.
The Argentine manager, who left a notable mark during his time at Tottenham Hotspur, has frequently been associated with the managerial position at United since Jose Mourinho was in charge at Old Trafford.
Pochettino’s recent departure from Chelsea by mutual consent has reignited these rumours. Erik ten Hag’s position at United is uncertain despite the FA Cup final victory last month.
The former Chelsea boss was back at Stamford Bridge on Sunday evening to manage the World XI team in the 2024 edition of Soccer Aid, which raised over £15 million for charity.
After the thrilling game, which ended in a 6-3 win for the England team, Pochettino was interviewed on TalkSPORT.
“It was good. It was a good experience. All of the fans here gave us a nice welcome,” he said on his first return to Stamford Bridge since his departure.
“It’s a strange feeling because we finished a few weeks ago, but I am happy to be here again.”
The manager was then questioned on what comes for him next and whether he is eyeing his next opportunity in management.
“I have full energy, and I think we finished really well,” he added. “Now we just wait and see what happens. In football you never know, things can happen – today, nothing but tomorrow can appear and any opportunity, we are open to listen.”
Finally, the manager was asked the all-important question about whether he was looking to come back into the Premier League; he smiled and responded, “Open to football, we’re open to football.”
However, new reports this week have suggested that a move to Old Trafford appears unlikely for the Argentine manager. It remains to be seen who will be in the hot seat at United next season.
