Matthijs de Ligt has singled out three Manchester United stars for their performances against Leicester City in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

Ruud van Nistelrooy wrapped up his interim spell as Manchester United manager with a convincing 3-0 victory over Leicester City, highlighted by a standout performance from Bruno Fernandes.

The captain broke the deadlock early, finding the net with a precise finish from the edge of the box after a clever backheel assist from Amad Diallo.

Fernandes continued to influence the game, doubling United’s advantage just before half-time when his header ricocheted off Victor Kristiansen’s knee and into the goal.

Alejandro Garnacho rounded off the scoring with a sensational curling shot in the dying minutes, once again set up by Fernandes. However, it was also a night to applaud the efforts of Manuel Ugarte and Amad, who were instrumental in the dominant display.

Matthijs de Ligt’s praise

Following the victory, United defender Matthijs de Ligt spoke to MUTV about his adjustment at the club since he signed from Bayern Munich for £38 million.

“Yeah, it’s obviously when you come to a new team, it’s always in the beginning a little bit of an adjustment period, I think,” the 25-year-old explained.

“The problem is that nobody, also from the outside, gives you this time, so it’s not an excuse. You have to start from the beginning.”

Further, he chose to complement three of the team’s other new signings for their performances against Leicester, with Joshua Zirkzee, Manuel Ugarte, and Noussair Mazraoui all receiving praise from the Dutch defender.

“I think the new signings, have to say also a big compliment today to Josh [Zirkzee], how he came in, like really strong with the ball, perfect. He gave us so much space to breathe and made it so much easier for us.

“So, a big compliment also to him. Manu [Ugarte] played an amazing game, and Nous [Mazraoui]. I think Nous and me have a good rhythm of games now. For myself, I start to feel really good, also with the team.

“I start to feel [like I’m] getting in my rhythm, so I’m quite happy with that, and if you win, it’s even better.”

All four players are expected to play significant roles as Rúben Amorim joins the club as the side’s new head coach.
