Mason Mount has sent Manchester United supporters a message as he returns to first-team training following an extended calf injury.

Mount, 25, has been out of action since early November. His last appearance came during United’s 1-0 home win against Luton Town on 11 November.

The summer signing from Chelsea has had a difficult start to life at Old Trafford but will soon return to the fold and the midfielder will be hoping for a positive end to the season.

It was revealed on Tuesday afternoon that Mount had returned to first-team training at Carrington. He was pictured in the training photos uploaded by the club ahead of the FA Cup quarter-final clash against Liverpool.

However, he is unlikely to be available for that game, and will instead be in contention when United return to action after the international break. They face Brentford away on 30 March.

The £60 million midfielder has also taken to Instagram to send a message top supporters following his return to training.

Mount wrote: “Happy to be back on the grass and with the team!” The likes of Bruno Fernandes, Harry Maguire and Arsenal star Declan Rice responded with supportive messages.

Meanwhile, those now in charge at United have been looking ahead to the summer transfer window. INEOS are planning a mass change when the season ends and a report has claimed that they have already identified three key areas to focus on.

Peter Hall of iPaperSport has stated that while the complete structure is not yet in place, INEOS have identified central defence, full-back and striker as positions that require special attention in the next transfer window.

The futures of Jonny Evans, Victor Lindelöf, Harry Maguire and Raphaël Varane are all in the air, and so the report added that two signings could be made in that position.

There have been several injury troubles this year at full-back, particularly on the left side. Rasmus Højlund will be the club’s only recognised centre-forward when Anthony Martial leaves at the end of his contract this summer.
