Manchester United have had a key piece of team news for their FA Cup clash against Liverpool leaked by international manager Kasper Hjulmand.

Hjulmand, 51, has confirmed that Rasmus Højlund will be back for United on the weekend against Liverpool and suggested that he will start the game.

The Denmark manager revealed to national media ahead of the international break that he spoke to United boss Erik ten Hag and that he is expecting Højlund to play.

Interestingly, the head coach added that Højlund would have to “get through the game”, – suggesting that he will have a larger part to play than a simple appearance from the bench.

“It is clear that Rasmus will play on Sunday against Liverpool, and he must come through that game well,” explained Hjulmand.

“We expect that. We are in contact with United. I have spoken to Erik [ten Hag], and we expect that to happen.

“But it is clear that he has to get through the game.”

These comments would not be ideal for Ten Hag or United, however. The Dutch boss usually likes to keep his cards close to his chest in terms of injury news and likely would’ve hoped to keep Højlund’s ability to start the game unknown.

The Denmark boss also commented on Christian Eriksen’s situation at United and stated that he is hoping that the midfielder’s situation changes after a difficult campaign.

Eriksen, 32, has made just two appearances for The Reds in 2024. He has played less than 900 minutes in the Premier League this season.

“He came back after an injury that kept him out over the autumn,” continued Hjumland.

“But as it is right now, Christian not playing often is not the best situation. I very much hope that it will change.”
