Marseille Mayor confirms he will tell Marseille NOT to sign “disgrace” Mason Greenwood
The Mayor of Marseille has confirmed that he will tell the president of Olympique de Marseille not to sign Mason Greenwood this summer.
Manchester United are set to sell Mason Greenwood to Ligue 1 side Marseille this summer after the two clubs came to an agreement on a fee just shy of £27 million.
According to The Athletic, United will receive a fixed fee of just over £23 million plus a further £4 million in add-ons. They will also hold a 50% sell-on clause and the right to buy further percentages if they choose to do so.

Greenwood became a very radioactive figure following his arrest in 2022 and has not played for United since, with the club determined to offload him.
Benoît Payan, president of Marseille, has not reacted to the news, making it clear that he is a player who should not be signing for the club in his city.
“Greenwood’s behaviour is unspeakable, unacceptable. Hitting his wife… I saw images that deeply shocked me,” Payan told RMC in a recent interview via Sport Witness.
“Attacking his wife in this way is unworthy of a man, and I believe he cannot have a place in this team.
“The values of Marseille and the values of Olympique de Marseille are anything but that. It’s anything but racism (and) anti-semitism. It’s anything but… can you imagine, violence against women? Do you realise that? And he claims to play for Olympique de Marseille, Greenwood? It’s a disgrace.
“I will ask the president of Olympique de Marseille not to recruit Greenwood. I don’t want my club to be covered in the shame of someone who hits his wife.
“I don’t want my club to be covered in the ashes of someone who hits his wife like that. It’s not acceptable.”
