David Ornstein has made a bold claim surrounding Marcus Rashford, with the Manchester United forward a hot transfer topic among some of Europe’s biggest clubs.

Marcus Rashford’s future at Manchester United has been rife with speculation since a candid interview revealed the 27-year-old’s desire to pursue a fresh challenge.

Once the standout figure in United’s attack, Rashford reached his peak during the 2022/23 season, scoring an impressive 30 goals under Erik ten Hag. However, his form has since dipped, and under Rúben Amorim, he has found himself on the fringes of the squad.

With Amad Diallo and Bruno Fernandes now mainstays in the attacking lineup, Rashford has not featured in United’s last six matches, further signaling his diminished role in the team.

Having been with Manchester United for nearly two decades, Rashford’s story began with a sensational debut as an 18-year-old. He burst onto the scene with two goals against FC Midtjylland in the Europa League and followed it up with another brace against Arsenal in the Premier League just days later.

The club is reportedly open to loaning Rashford in January, with a permanent transfer likely in the summer. His departure now seems certain, bringing an end to a remarkable era at Old Trafford as he prepares to start a new chapter in his career.

Ornstein makes bold claim surrounding Rashford’s future

Although many have had their say over what United should do surrounding Rashford, the latest reports have signified that the club are far from making a final decision.

It’s been relayed by Sky Sports that United are still considering whether keeping the winger may be the best solution for the club fiscally ahead of assessing a potential permanent transfer this summer.

However, transfer specialist David Ornstein has now stuck his neck on the line regarding Rashford’s immediate future, explaining that he thinks the player will depart United this month.

“There were and will be multiple other meetings as they explore various avenues,” Ornstein said on The Athletic’s transfer podcast.

“The conditions of a deal, would you involve an option to buy or an obligation to buy? Would Manchester United be open to that? Would Rashford like to?

“There are suggestions he’s turned down three offers from the Saudi Pro League, but the Saudi Pro League pushed back on that and said there were no offers.

“If you were to ask me ‘do I expect Marcus Rashford to depart Manchester United in this January transfer window?’ – clip this up, take the mick out of me, a custard pie moment – yes I do.”

Where could Rashford leave to in January

The latest reports on the clubs most interested in Marcus Rashford see the player garnering admirers from both La Liga and the Serie A.

It was reported earlier this month that the player’s ideal destination is to play for Spanish side Barcelona. Although the Catalan side were slower to react than others, they are now said to be very keen to take Rashford on loan.

However, AC Milan have previously expressed intense interest in the player, too, with his brother and representative Dwayne Maynard having flown to Italy for face to face talks with the club.

Milan advisor Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who previously played with Rashford at United, is reportedly in favour of bringing the winger to San Siro and has vouched to those at the club surrounding Rashford’s character.
