Manchester United have been provided with a positive update on the future of Marcus Rashford after the winger was substituted in England’s last fixture.

During England’s 2-0 win over Malta, Marcus Rashford was substituted just after the hour mark with the player having collided with Trent Alexander-Arnold earlier in the fixture.

Gareth Southgate started Rashford despite his continuing poor form for Manchester United, where he has just scored one goal under Erik ten Hag, but replaced the winger to hand an international debut to Chelsea‘s Cole Palmer.

“I think he’s probably okay but we just thought given the nature of the collision, it was a chance to get Cole [Palmer] into the game,” Southgate said on Friday evening. “Yeah, I haven’t assessed too much but I think he was okay when he came off.”

With United already suffering from a high number of injuries, Rashford being added to the list would be yet another blow in an already poor season for Ten Hag, but fortunately, United have been handed a positive update with Rashford being spotted in England training ahead of their tie against North Macedonia tomorow.

This situation with André Onana, however, is currently quite bleak. The Cameroon FA confirmed on Sunday morning that the goalkeeper had suffered from a hip injury and will not be featuring against Libya on Monday.

The Athletic have now revealed that Onana has been recalled back to Manchester, where the club will put their no. 24 through further tests to assess the nature and severity of his injury.

Should Onana’s injury be severe enough that Ten Hag will not be able to play him against Everton next weekend – which at this stage is unknown – then the Dutch manager will have to hand a debut to Altay Bayındır.

Bayındır was signed from Fenerbahce for a fee of £4.3 million in the summer to become deputy to Onana, and should he feature, he will become the first Turkish player to play for Manchester United.
