Manchester United’s eight most likely summer exits revealed as David Ornstein provides Marcus Rashford transfer twist

Manchester United’s eight most likely summer exits have been revealed as David Ornstein provides a twist in the future of Marcus Rashford.

Manchester United are looking to raise as much funds as possible in the summer transfer window as they completely revamp Rúben Amorim’s squad.

Reports explain that, more than anything, the club want to focus on bringing in fresh reinforcements in attack.

It looks likely that Amorim will be able to bring in both Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap and Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Matheus Cunha during the early stages of the summer window, with reports that a deal for the latter has already been agreed.

However, to fund further signings, United are looking to raise in excess of £150 million through player sales, bringing in additional talent to Old Trafford before the start of next season.

Ornstein provides Rashford future twist

Speaking with NBC Sports, transfer expert David Ornstein has provided a twist on the future of United forward Marcus Rashford.

The 27-year-old is currently on loan at Aston Villa for the remainder of the campaign, with the Birmingham club retaining a £40 million buy option this summer as part of the agreement.

However, Ornstein has confirmed that despite this option, there is a solid chance Rashford may depart elsewhere this summer, with the player himself liking the idea of signing for La Liga side Barcelona.

“Aston Villa have a £40 million option to buy him. Let’s see if they get into the Champions League and whether they are the proposition that he wants to join, and also that they can afford him,” Ornstein said.

“I think he could also go elsewhere, of course. He’s always liked the idea of somewhere like Spain, Barcelona. We’ll have to wait and see. He wants to be in the Champions League.

“He doesn’t want to be in London, we’re hearing, and I don’t think he has a future at Manchester United.”

Seven other United players could leave

The topic of Rashford’s future was broached amid a conversation about where United could raise funds for further transfers this summer.

Further on the topic, Ornstein explained that there are a further seven players, such as Antony, Tyrell Malacia, and Casemiro, whose exits would allow United further funds for signings this summer.

“Those funds [from Rashford], on top of perhaps Jadon Sancho going to Chelsea on a permanent basis, Casemiro maybe leaving, Antony, Malacia, let’s see what happens with [Rasmus] Højlund.

“Moving [Christian] Eriksen and [Victor] Lindelöf’s wages off the bill when they expire on their own terms at the end of the season could raise a lot of money that Manchester United could reinvest.

“And I don’t think their targets are going to change based on whether they’re in Europe or not or what competition. They’re pretty sure of what they want and they’re going to try and do it in a busy summer at Old Trafford.”
