Brentford have finally responded to Manchester United’s third bid for Bryan Mbeumo as Rúben Amorim looks to increase his attacking firepower this summer.
On Thursday, Manchester United tabled a third offer for Bryan Mbeumo, worth £65 million plus a further £5 million in add-ons, as they look to secure their third signing of the summer.
With Matheus Cunha and Diego Leon already through the door, Rúben Amorim is eager to wrap up a significant portion of his key business before the Premier League campaign begins.
United have been pursuing the Cameroon international for the past six weeks, with Mbeumo making it clear early on that his preferred destination is Old Trafford.
After seeing previous bids of £55 million and £62.5 million turned down, their latest proposal — totalling £70 million — has now been accepted, albeit with a slight price change.
Brentford respond to United’s £70m bid
As per The Athletic, United and Brentford have finally reached an agreement on the transfer of Mbeumo to Old Trafford this summer.
However, the article details that while the £65 million base fee remains the same, the add-ons in the deal will now reach up to £6 million.
It has been previously explained elsewhere that these add-ons are dependent on team success and are not easily obtainable, such as through United qualifying for the Champions League.
United will pay the £65 million fee across four instalments, giving them much more breathing room to sign further reinforcements elsewhere this summer.
Amorim’s plan finally falling into place
Heading into the summer, it was crucial for Amorim that his front line be fully reinforced with goal-scoring players ahead of next season.
Last season, Cunha netted 15 goals in the league, while Mbeumo netted 20, proving themselves to be two of the most effective goalscoring wide men in the Premier League.
With United already possessing creative outlets such as Amad and Bruno Fernandes, adding goalscoring to the front line has been a key part of Amorim’s summer strategy, and he wanted as many of his new signings as possible available for the United States section of the pre-season tour.
With the third Mbeumo bid now accepted, United can move on to signing a striker and midfielder, with links to Royal Antwerp goalkeeper Senne Lammens also picking up.
