Manchester United willing to offer £60 million for Juventus and Liverpool midfield target
According to reports from Italy, Manchester United are willing to pay upwards of £60 million to sign Teun Koopmeiners, who is wanted by Juventus and Liverpool.
One area that Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS are looking to improve in their first transfer window as minority owners of the Red Devils this summer is the midfield.
Uncertainty over the futures of Sofyan Amrabat, Casemiro and Christian Eriksen the middle of the park needs a refresh and reinforcement with United already being active in the market with their first bid for Benfica’s João Neves being rejected.
According to Calciomercato the Reds are looking at Atalanta midfielder and Erik ten Hag’s compatriot Teun Koopmeiners who is versatile and has an eye for goal.
The 26-year-old scored 12 times and provided five assists for his teammates in 34 appearances in the Serie A during the 23/24 season. In the usual fashion of a player doing well outside of Turin, this has piqued Juventus’s interest.
The Old Lady are willing to offer €40 million plus a player and with Koopmeiners said to prefer to stay in Italy the 36 times Scudetto winners could be seen as favourites for his signature.
There is also interest from Liverpool and their new manager Arne Slot managed the Dutchman at AZ Alkmaar but Calciomercato state that United will look to swoop in with an offer of a maximum of €70 million to get the deal over the line.
However, Atalanta believe that Koopmeiners valuation will increase as he represents the Netherlands at the Euros this summer and €70 million will not be enough.
There have been no concrete reports linking Manchester United to the Dutch midfielder and the suggested price tag is very high considering the club’s lowball approach to Benfica for Neves who has been reported as a top transfer target by many outlets this summer.
