Manchester United have reportedly set their sights on recruiting Jack Butland to play second in command to David de Gea.

After Martin Dubravka was recalled from his loan to Manchester United by Newcastle United, Erik ten Hag is reportedly looking for new options to fill the No.2 position behind David de Gea in goal.

With Tom Heaton still sat at third choice under Ten Hag this season, it has become clear that the Dutch manager would rather bring in a fresh face to act as deputy, rather than promote Heaton to the position himself.

In a piece of news exclusively revealed by The Telegraph, it appears that Ten Hag has settled his sights on the current Crystal Palace keeper.

Jack Butland rose to prominence back in 2012, becoming the youngest goalkeeper to represent England Men’s team. He established himself as a top goalkeeper while at Stoke and was a regular in the England squad until 2018, when Stoke were relegated.

He has since moved to Crystal Palace, where he has played second choice to Vicente Guaita ever since.

According to The Daily Mail, Butland is the man Erik ten Hag has identified who can provide competition for David de Gea as United embark on a potentially busy second half of the season.

United’s next fixture is away against Everton in the FA Cup as Ten Hag looks to progress through the competition, aiming to win his first trophy as Manchester United manager. United also have an EFL Cup quarter-final meeting with Charlton Athletic next week, and will be looking to break into the final four of the competition.
