Manchester United ‘trying to sign’ £75,000-a-week star for Ruben Amorim after failed approach last summer

Manchester United are trying to sign one player for Ruben Amorim last summer after they failed to bring him in for free last summer.

As Manchester United entered the summer transfer window, their primary focus was on bolstering the attack, with Matheus Cunha becoming their first signing.

The 26-year-old forward netted 15 goals in the Premier League last season and is expected to play a key role at Old Trafford moving forward.

The Reds are now targeting Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo, and securing both players would significantly enhance Ruben Amorim’s attacking options.

Next on United’s agenda is the addition of a striker and a midfielder. However, further signings will depend on outgoing transfers, with various candidates under consideration for each position.

One of the midfield options being considered at United is Leicester City star Wilfred Ndidi, with multiple reports stating the club’s interest in the 28-year-old.

According to The Standard, the Reds were actually working on a deal to sign Ndidi last summer before he renewed his contract at the King Power Stadium.

The Reds were among a group of clubs, including Everton, West Ham and Fulham, to register an interest in signing the Nigerian on a free contract at the time.

But he decided to stay at Leicester but, as many reports have stated, now has a release clause activated following their relegation from the Premier League.

It has been claimed that United are trying to sign Ndidi for £5 million this summer to improve the midfield depth at Old Trafford.

Ndidi could be smart business

Signing a Premier League-proven player who is only 28, for such a low price, is not a bad piece of business on the surface and something United should probably do a little more of.

But this kind of signing only seems to make sense if there are exits in the engine room and another player is brought into the club.

Ndidi, who currently earns around £75,000-per-week with the Foxes, would not start consistently for Amorim but is a useful squad player. United need someone to start alongside Bruno Fernandes in the middle.

It is not a glamorous signing by any means, but it could be a smart piece of business as long as it is not portrayed at the ‘energetic’ midfield signing Amorim desired.
