Manchester United enter race for £70m-rated Euro 2024 star, ‘good chance’ he leaves club
Manchester United have appeared to enter the race to sign a £70 million-rated star who excelled on the Euro 2024 stage.
The Reds are closing in on their first signing of the summer after agreeing a deal with Bologna for the transfer of Joshua Zirkzee, who will undergo a medical on Friday.
However, there are several other moves that the INEOS-led team are expected to make.
At least two additions in the backline are expected, with Matthijs de Ligt closing in on a deal and Leny Yoro assessing his options after United had a bid accepted by Lille.
There is also expected to be a midfield signing as well as bringing in another forward. These will likely depend on how successful United are when selling players this summer.
According to a new article from The Sun, United have joined Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig in showing strong interest in PSG starlet Xavi Simons.
It was explained that the French club are yet to decide on his future, but it is likely he will depart the Parc de Princes in the coming months due to his eagerness for game-time.
While any deal would be unlikely to be permanent, the report added that an exit would almost certainly be a loan with an obligation to buy. PSG are looking to avoid selling Simons before the end of 2024 when PSV Eindhoven’s sell-on clause expires.
It was concluded that an eventual permanent exit would be around £70 million for the talented Dutch star, who scored once and registered three assists at Euro 2024.
Whether or not United can offer that price tag next summer, a loan deal this coming season could make sense within their tight budget, especially since the 21-year-old would be unlikely to demand large wages.
Simons can play in the midfield, as well as off either wing. He scored 10 goals and registered 15 assists on loan at RB Leipzig last term.
