Manchester United have reportedly rejected the opportunity to sign a £50 million player ahead of Friday evening’s transfer deadline.

Manchester United are poised to secure their fifth signing of the summer with Manuel Ugarte‘s arrival from Paris St. Germain.

Erik ten Hag has already strengthened the squad by signing  Joshua ZirkzeeLeny YoroMatthijs de Ligt, and Noussair Mazraoui, with the total transfer expenditure nearing £139 million. Adding Ugarte will push this amount past the £200 million threshold.

Meanwhile, United have generated over £65 million from the sales of Aaron Wan-BissakaMason GreenwoodWilly Kambwala, and others.

While the club are now focused on sales, fresh reports have explained that they have turned down an offer to sign left-back Ben Chilwell in recent hours despite injuries to both Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia.

According to The Independent, United have rejected the chance to sign Chilwell from Chelsea, who they acquired from Leicester City in a £50 million deal back in 2020.

“Manchester United are not acting on the availability of Ben Chilwell, despite Chelsea raising the prospect of a deal in ongoing talks between the two clubs,” the report read.

“Executives of both have been discussing whether they can resolve a number of squad issues with mutually beneficial deals, particularly the futures of Raheem Sterling, Jadon Sancho and Chilwell.

“The left-back had been proposed by Chelsea due to United’s struggles in that area with Luke Shaw’s injury record, but the Old Trafford hierarchy have decided to press on with their own options.

“It is understood the figures involved in any prospective deal, as one factor, were way apart.”

With United set to announce the signing of Ugarte in the coming days for a fee of around £42 million, it feels as if their transfer budget is now empty.

They are looking to wrap up the sales of Scott McTominay and Jadon Sancho before the deadline on Friday evening.
