Manchester United have three left-back options “on the table”, says Fabrizio Romano
Manchester United have three left-back options “on the table” as they look to end the summer transfer window strongly.
The Reds are aiming to bring further additions to Erik ten Hag’s squad in the coming weeks, having already secured the signings of Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui this week.
These two acquisitions come after Leny Yoro and Joshua Zirkzee put pen to paper on deals earlier this summer. Now, United are eager to strengthen two more areas.
Manuel Ugarte remains the top target for those at Old Trafford as a central midfielder, but negotiations stalled due to PSG’s firm stance on his valuation.
Meanwhile, Ten Hag hopes to strengthen at left-back following Luke Shaw’s latest injury. He and Tyrell Malacia will be unavailable for the start of the season.
The likes of Lisandro Martínez, Diogo Dalot and Mazraoui are all potential options to cover in the position but the United boss will likely want another specialised player in his squad.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the Reds have not yet made a decision for the left-back position due to the immediate priority being the midfield.
He added that the club have ideas for when it is time to attack a deal, and players have also been proposed to them.
The reporter concluded by mentioning that Mario Hermoso, Sergio Reguilon and Marcos Alonso are all options on the table for the Old Trafford outfit.
Reguilon spent the first half of last season on loan from Tottenham Hotspur, while Hermoso can also play as a centre-back.
Romano has also detailed that Alonso, who is now a free agent, would “love” to join the Old Trafford outfit.
It is likely that Mazraoui will make his debut in the vacant position against Fulham, while Dalot will start on the right side of the defence as usual.
De Ligt could also start for the first time since signing, pairing Martínez at the heart of the defence.
