Manchester United reportedly feel they have found a player who is the perfect understudy for Amad and is born to play for the club.
Amad’s career at Manchester United began at 18, when the young winger joined the club from Atalanta for an £18 million fee, with add-ons that could take the deal to £36 million.
Initially, he was part of Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s squad, but was later loaned to Rangers and Sunderland, with the latter loan kick-starting his career in senior football.
After filing to secure game-time under Erik ten Hag, he was finally granted a chance for regular action by Rúben Amorim and has since become one of the club’s most reliable players as a wing-back.
Now, under Michael Carrick’s temporary guidance, Amad is expected to play a huge role as part of the front three and has firmly established himself as a fan-favourite. Also, many have noted that Amad’s versatility and work ethic is that of a true United player.
Untied feel Lacey is the perfect Amad understudy
While Amad is still just 23, he is widely seen as a senior and influential player, having forged tight bonds with the likes of Ayden Heaven, Bruno Fernandes, and Bryan Mbeumo over the last 18 months.
United have two top-class right wingers in Mbeumo and Amad, but in the Academy, Shea Lacey, who made his debut for the club late last month, is another incredible young talent they are developing.
According to GiveMeSport, United see Lacey as the ‘perfect’ understudy to Amad, as the duo play a similar style of football and share a brilliant work ethic.
Lacey was brilliant against the likes of Aston Villa, Burnley, and Brighton, even though he was sent off against the latter. He is seen at the club as a player ‘born’ to play for United, and his development will be taken extremely seriously.
Club insiders feel Gabriel is a destined superstar
Although Lacey is undeniably one of United’s brightest talents, another who the club are hoping holds a huge future at Old Trafford is 15-year-old JJ Gabriel.
The GiveMeSport report states that those inside the club feel that English talent is a once-in-a-generation player who could become a complete superstar if he remains at Old Trafford and develops in a settled, sustainable environment.
Those at the club are reportedly keen to see Gabriel given his first taste of professional football as soon as possible, although this cannot be until next season.

As Gabriel was 14 when the Premier League started, he was unable to be registered. With United knocked out of the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup, and with no European competition, he cannot make his senior debut until next season.
David Gaskell currently holds the record for the youngest ever first-team player at United at 16 years and 19 days in 1956, while Angel Gomes holds the record in the Premier League era at 16 years and 263 days.
With Gabriel not turning 16 until October, he would have to make his first-team debut before
25 October 2026 to break Gaskell’s record.
