Manchester United ‘still keen’ on signing £56m “outstanding player”, he’s a Bryan Mbeumo alternative

Manchester United are reportedly still keen on signing one of their earlier summer targets amid continued frustrations surrounding their pursuit of Bryan Mbeumo.

Manchester United remain in negotiations over what would be their third signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Matheus Cunha and Diego Leon, as a deal for Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo moves closer to completion.

Rúben Amorim is determined to add more attacking quality to his squad, having already strengthened with Cunha, though talks with Brentford over Mbeumo have been drawn out.

The club’s opening £55 million offer for the 25-year-old was rejected in early June, and a follow-up bid—matching that figure with an additional £7.5 million in add-ons—was also turned down.

Despite the setbacks, confidence remains high that an agreement will be reached. Once Mbeumo arrives, United are expected to accelerate player departures and continue their push to sign both a striker and a midfielder before the Premier League season kicks off in mid-August.

United still keen on Southampton’s Dibling

Earlier this summer, United were closely linked with Southampton wonderkid Tyler Dibling after the 19-year-old impressed those across the Premier League last season.

Although initial reports stated Southampton wanted as much as £100 million for the player, it has now been detailed that their asking price sits more in the range of £47-56 million.

Amid United’s continued frustrations and lack of progress with the Mbeumo deal, Sky Sports Germany’s Florian Plettenberg has explained that United are one of four clubs who still remain keen on the “outstanding player.”

Plettenberg explained that Southampton are looking for around £50 million for the teenage star following their relegation from the top flight, and that United have been joined by Tottenham, Nottingham Forest, and West Ham as interested parties.

A move for Dibling only likely if Mbeumo talks collapse

United’s director of football, Jason Wilcox, is known to be an admirer of Dibling, but with United completely focused on securing Mbeumo, signing the England youth international is currently unlikely.

Dibling shone as a right-sided forward last season for Southampton, in a similar space on the pitch to where Mbeumo secured his 20-goal Premier League campaign with Brentford.

If United were to head into negotiations with Southampton for the teenager, it would likely only be if they had given up all hope on signing Mbeumo. However, reports indicate that United remain hopeful they can finally get their man before the club jet off to the United States for pre-season.

However, it has also been reported previously that Dilbing has been advised that he may be better off snubbing United this summer and signing for West Ham, as there is a more straightforward path for development.
