Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen has discussed his future at the club, confirming he was never told to leave the club this summer.

Eriksen, 32, has entered the final year of his United contract having signed a three-year contract in the summer of 2022.

A frequent starter in his first year at the club, Eriksen’s role in Erik ten Hag’s side has been reduced over the last fifteen months.

After seemingly falling down the pecking order at the club, Eriksen was frequently linked with a move away from Old Trafford this summer.

Constant reports emerged over the transfer window linking Eriksen with several clubs around Europe, with the Danish international’s agent confirming that several clubs enquired about the midfielder.

Despite this, when discussing his future with the media following United’s 7-0 victory over Barnsley, Eriksen denied reports that he was ever close to leaving the club this summer.

“I feel very good being at United,” Eriksen stated. “If they told me to leave, I would leave, but I didn’t hear that.

“I’m also a guy who likes being in a place where my family is settled and at the same time being in a place where I can benefit and play, that’s always going to be my aim.

“It’s difficult to ask the manager in the off-season how many minutes I’m going to get in a season. If he starts promising minutes to players, we’re going to have a long season. There was no speaking in that sense, just head down, work hard and focus on each game.”

Despite ruling out the suggestion he ever intended to leave this summer, the five-time Danish Footballer of the Year refused to commit his long-term future to the Red Devils.

“There’s one year left on my contract,” Eriksen added. “So my focus is going to be on this year, going full out and see what happens afterwards.”

With Eriksen set to see out the remainder of his contract, the former Inter Milan and Spurs midfielder admitted that, for better or worse, media speculation is rife around the club.

“When you’re at United, it’s always up and down in some weird way, with people talking from the outside,” he added.

Against Barnsley on Tuesday night, Eriksen had possibly his finest game in a Manchester United shirt.

Scoring twice and assisting once, Eriksen was instrumental as the Red Devils strolled to victory in a complete domination of their League One opponents.

To date, Eriksen has made 75 appearances for United, picking up 13 assists and scoring five goals.
