One Manchester United man that Bruno Fernandes thinks is “quality” has been added to a Champions League club transfer target list.
Manchester United are underway planning the summer transfer window where the club will attempt to align the squad more with Ruben Amorim’s style of play.
The club look likely to bring in attackers like Liam Delap and Matheus Cunha to bolster the squad’s attack which has been lacklustre this season.
In order to fund new incoming attackers, United are looking to part ways with some of their current ones. Marcus Rashford and Antony are both linked to moves away from the club in the summer.
However, it now seems that an attacker that Amorim may not want to sell has been targeted by a Champions League club as one of their main summer targets.
Inter hatch plan to secure Zirkzee
A report from Corriere dello Sport has indicated that Inter Milan have added Joshua Zirkzee to the top of their list of striker targets this summer, and want to offer United a loan with an option to buy the player in the summer just one season after Zirkzee joined United from Bologna for a fee of £36.5 million.
Since arriving at United, Zirkzee has had a tumultuous season. The 23-year-old’s season hit a low when he was booed off the pitch in the 33rd minute against Newcastle in December.
However, Zirkzee then saw an uptick in form, scoring several important goals throughout the season, and Bruno Fernandes labelled the player as “quality” after his resurgence before his injury.
He even reached the point where his name being sung was one of the most popular chants at Old Trafford prior to his season being cut short with a thigh injury.
Due to this mixed season at United, Inter believe they can offer the Dutch striker the chance to “relaunch himself.” Inter also believe that the appeal of playing in Serie A, a league where he has had separate spells with Bologna and Parma, will incentivise the player to agree to the deal.
Zirkzee is not the only striker that Inter are looking at as they see Como’s Nico Paz, Napoli’s Giacomo Raspadori and Parma’s Ange-Yoan Bonny as other potential options. Based on this list it is clear that Serie A experience is a priority for Inter hence why Zirkzee has been targeted.
Inter plotting second loan move for De Ligt
United centre-back Matthijs De Ligt is also reportedly on the Italian transfer target list as they look to bring in reinforcements across the pitch. In both deals, Inter have reportedly favoured a loan with an option to buy. De Ligt has previously played at Juventus, ensuring he has the Serie A experience that Inter desire.
Even if United decided they would indulge Inter in these deals there is still no guarantee that either player would permanently leave the club.
Most reports have indicated that if United are going to let a player leave, it will be for a transfer fee rather than on loan.
The money is needed for reinvestment due to how close the club is to PSR spending limits, hence why there have been reports of United being open to selling Kobiee Mainoo and Alejandro Garancho for the right fee.
This will likely make the club opposed to the Inter deals for Zirkzee and De Ligt unless they change the deal to a complete transfer for a satisfactory fee, although it feels as if the chances of either player leaving this summer are very slim.
