Manchester United slammed for “baffling” move after transfer update, alternative suggested
Manchester United have been slammed for making a “baffling” transfer move as they look to sign a striker this summer.
The Reds have several priorities to address in the coming months so that Erik ten Hag’s squad are prepared for the 2024/25 campaign.
One of those is to bring in a striker to support Rasmus Højlund, who is currently the only recognised no.9 at the club.
The 21-year-old scored 16 goals in his debut campaign at Old Trafford but showed that he might not be ready to consistently start throughout the season.
Joshua Zirkzee has been identified as a serious option by the club and various reports have stated that United are preparing to trigger his £34 million release clause at Bologna.
Zirkzee has admitted that he is a different type of striker than Højlund, but club legend Dwight Yorke has criticised this move.
The Treble-winning forward is perplexed about this potential deal. He believes Højlund needs an experienced striker alongside him rather than 23-year-old Zirkzee and has suggested Borussia Dortmund and German forward Niclas Fullkrug.
“Names like Joshua Zirkzee being linked to Man United is baffling. They need a player who can definitely score goals,” Yorke told Best Payout Online Slots.
“They need someone who knows how to play in the Premier League. Why would you need 23-year-old Zirkzee when you have 21-year-old Rasmus Hojlund already at the club?
“Erik ten Hag needs an experienced man at striker alongside Hojlund, as he obviously struggled towards the end of last season.
“Niclas Fullkrug is one of those experienced strikers who has been smashing in the goals lately. But, he needs to be the right character.”
