Manchester United are set to sell at least six first-team players in the summer as Erik ten Hag continues his rebuild at Old Trafford.

That’s according to a report from The Mirror which details that the Dutch manager is already planning ahead for the next transfer window.

It was added that, in order to fund incomings, United are looking to move on Harry Maguire, Scott McTominay, Donny van de Beek and Anthony Martial; as well as current loanees Eric Bailly and Alex Telles.

This would follow a positive trend of squad turnover that began with the likes of Paul Pogba, Edinson Cavani and Nemanja Matic moving on last summer.

Despite Ten Hag’s complimentary comments about Martial, the French striker’s injury problems will mean the manager looks elsewhere for a centre-forward to challenge for trophies.

Meanwhile, Maguire and McTominay are no longer first-team regulars and boast large contracts for players who would be rotation at best going forward at Old Trafford. Maguire also has his England career to focus on after being offered minimal minutes ahead of the excellent Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez.

Whilst many were excited to see the possibility of improvement under Ten Hag for Van de Beek, he did not impress enough in his cameos before falling to injury last month. A move would most likely be best for both parties.

Both Telles and Bailly are also now surplus to requirements at United. But the side could do with adding a younger centre-back to be an understudy to Varane.

Regarding incomings, Ten Hag has identified a striker, a dynamic midfielder and a central defender for the summer window. Harry Kane has previously been mentioned as a target for The Reds.

The Tottenham Hotspur captain scored the winning goal against Manchester City on the weekend and that goal meant he leapfrogged Jimmy Greaves as the top goalscorer for the north London-based club.
