Erik ten Hag has given a bleak update on Donny van de Beek’s injury with the Dutch midfielder set to be out for the rest of the season.

Donny Van de Beek looked like his Manchester United career was finally underway with the 25-year-old beginning to make frequent appearances in and around the starting XI under the manager for whom he played so well that United paid €40 million for his signature in 2020.

Not many, if any, United fans would say that Donny’s move from Amsterdam to Manchester has been a success for either the player or the club with the playmaker seeing more action on the bench than on the pitch.

Unfortunately, his time at Old Trafford has hit another roadblock as he sustained a severe knee injury during the Red Devils 3-0 win against Bournemouth on January 3.

Talking ahead of the Manchester derby tomorrow, Erik ten Hag provided an update on Van de Beek’s injury and was positive about the situation as it was feared that the knee was in a much worse condition.

“Of course, the bad news is he is out for the rest of the season, but the good news is, in the long term, his knee will be okay and he will be ready again to play at the highest levels and will be ready for the start of pre-season.”

Although the injury is something that no one would want or wish for Van de Beek, Manchester United wouldn’t be able to ask for a better cheerleader on the sidelines as the Dutchman went viral for his zealous reactions to United goals as a sub ever since he joined.

After undergoing an operation on his knee Donny shared a similar eagerness for the preseason as his manager and thanked the fans for the kind words and support.

With this mindset of coming back stronger from both the player and manager, hopefully come next season Manchester United fans will finally see Donny Van de Beek enjoy his football in the famous red shirt.

We wish him all the best for the long recovery ahead.
