Manchester United reportedly close to signing Dutch striker Wout Weghorst on loan
Manchester United have turned to Dutch striker Wout Weghorst as a potential option to bolster their goalscoring option as Erik ten Hag searches for a fresh attacker.
Manchester United have been linked to several attackers so far this window, with Erik ten Hag admitting he needs more goals in his side as the club head into a busy second half of the season.
United are fighting on all four fronts, with battles in the Premier League, FA Cup, EFL Cup and Europa League all on the immediate and far horizons of Old Trafford, and after the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo, a stop-gap signing is needed to bring an extra option to the front line.
According to Santi Aouna and Lucas Billard from France, Ten Hag has set his eyes on the potential of bringing Weghorst, 30, into the fold in order to be this option.
Their information state that the United board are happy with the option of signing Weghorst on loan, and the club have made very good progress in leading to a loan move for the striker, with the deal described as “close”.
The move has then further been described as one that Weghorst would find incredibly hard to turn down, as the opportunity to play for Manchester United is once-in-a-lifetime – an “exciting challenge”.
Standing at at a marvellous hight of 197cm tall, Weghorst is certainly an option that Manchester United do not currently have, and will be a rather spectacular option for Luke Shaw, Christian Eriksen, Diogo Dalot and Bruno Fernandes to get high crosses in to as a secondary option.

Weghorst has previous Premier League experience, playing once before for Burnley before the club were relegated to the Championship at the end of last season, and has been plying his trade for Turkish club Besiktas.
He scored two goals against eventual World Cup winners Argentina during the knockout rounds of the tournament.
This news comes after it was revealed that United were eyeing up a move for Vincent Aboubakar in order to increase their forward line, with the striker also having some impressive displays during the World Cup in Qatar.
