Manchester United are looking for alternatives strikers to bolster Ruben Amorim’s squad after being snubbed by Liam Delap this week.
Manchester United have endured one of their most disappointing seasons in recent decades, and major changes are essential to get the club back on track at Old Trafford.
The priority this summer must be securing high-calibre signings, such as Matheus Cunha, while also parting ways with several players who no longer fit the team’s direction.
Ruben Amorim will also face intense scrutiny as he looks to fine-tune his tactical approach to meet the demands of Premier League football after a difficult start.
This summer’s transfer window is widely seen as one of the most important in the club’s recent history — a period that could spark real progress if decisive and intelligent decisions are made.
United to reignite interest in striker duo
It was a blow for United when Liam Delap opted for a move to Chelsea over joining the Old Trafford club but they are now focused on finding an alternative.
According to a report from GiveMeSport, the Reds are planning to ‘reignite’ their interest in Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta and Paris Saint-Germain’s star Randal Kolo Muani.
United will make checks over whether Kolo Muani would fit into Amorim’s plans after previously assessing the striker on numerous occasions, including the latest January window.
The PSG forward had a positive time on loan with Juventus at the back-end of last season and has been described as ‘complete’ by Real Madrid superstar Kylian Mbappe.
It is claimed in the report that Kolo Muani would cost around £35 million while reports elsewhere suggest Mateta would be at least £40 million.
United confirm latest departure
Meanwhile, United have confirmed a departure within Amorim’s coaching staff this week, with first-team coach Andreas Georgson leaving Old Trafford.
Georgson, 43, joined the club in July 2024 as part of Erik ten Hag’s new-look backroom staff alongside the likes of Rene Hake and Ruud van Nistelrooy.
He originally was focused on set-pieces but when Amorim took charge, his own assistant Carlos Fernandes appeared to take control of them, leaving Georgson with a confusing role.
Speaking on the exit, United’s technical director Jason Wilcox said: “Andreas has been a valued member of our men’s first-team coaching set-up over the past year, and we are grateful for his significant contribution.
“He leaves with our thanks and best wishes for the next stage of his career.”
