Manchester United are reportedly set to join the race with Premier League rivals to sign a world-class forward who has performed exceptionally well this season.
Manchester United are continuing to search for their perfect No. 9, with Rúben Amorim’s team still struggling to pose a consistent goal threat.
The Old Trafford club are already on their way to revamping their squad for the next season and are looking forward to beginning the 2025/26 campaign with intent, no doubt hoping for a top-four finish in the Premier League.
The Red Devils are already linked to some of the big names for the summer window, from the likes of Liam Delap and Victor Osimhen, along with their midfield interest in Eberechi Eze.
And now the reports coming in that the Red Devils are looking to join the race with Premier League rivals to sign a French forward who has been “elite” this season.
United interested in PSG’s Dembele
Ousmane Dembele has emerged as the leading player for PSG this campaign following the departure of Kylian Mbappé. The French forward has scored 32 goals in 42 appearances so far, also notching 11 assists. Naturally, the Premier League giants are paying close attention to him.
According to CaughtOffside, United are one of four English sides keeping track of Dembele this summer, with Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool also among his “biggest admirers” after his stunning season in Ligue 1.
As for how much Dembele would cost, his market value currently sits at around £65 million. However, considering his stunning campaign in France, there is little doubt that PSG would demand a fee in significant excess of this.
United are thought to only be able to have significant funds to sign players this summer if they are able to secure Champions League qualification, which could see him earn an extra £80-100 million in revenue.
United have a history with Dembele, having tried to secure him from Barcelona in 2020 prior to his move to France.
Amorim is perfect for Dembele, but signing him is not easy
There is no doubt that the Parisians will not make it easy for the interested clubs to sign the star forward.
According to the above report, PSG are hoping to secure a lucrative contract with the French forward in the coming months to stave off interest in the 27-year-old.
However, in the unlikely event that United were able to bring Dembele to Old Trafford, the 40-year-old boss could be the perfect manager to harness Dembele’s abilities in the Premier League.
The Frenchman is known to be a two-footed player and is able to play across the front three, meaning he possesses the versatility and technical brilliance that Amorim loves in his forward players.
Dembele’s dynamism and quick feet would be a perfect asset within the right and left attacking midfield roles at Old Trafford, and he would no doubt form fantastic partnerships with those such as Amad and Joshua Zirkzee.
