Manchester United have received a triple injury boost during their pre-season training in the USA, as the squad prepares for their last Premier League Summer Series fixture against Everton.
Manchester United’s misfortune with injury has been a key issue since Erik ten Hag took over from Ralf Rangnick, with several first-team players spending long spells on the sidelines due to frequent muscle problems.
While some players are still on the injury bench, they have been included in Rúben Amorim’s pre-season squad so the players can bond together, and it appears to have worked as Ayden Heaven has described the team as a “tight bunch.”
The team’s impressive performance against AFC Bournemouth could have been because the players feel so happy under Amorim, helping them play their best football before the Premier League season begins in just a few weeks.
United will be hosting Arsenal at Old Trafford during the opening weekend of the league season, on Sunday, 17 August.
Martínez resumes light training
Lisandro Martínez played his last United game against Crystal Palace, where he suffered a severe ACL injury after showcasing his true ability with a goal and an assist in his last four appearances.
The Argentine went on the pre-season tour to continue his development with the squad and is now ready to re-join light team training after doing individual work on the grass, running and with the ball, reports the Manchester Evening News.
While Martinez will remain unavailable for quite some time, seeing the defender back on the grass could give the squad a real boost, as they look to continue their impressive performances in the United States.
While Leny Yoro provided fantastic cover on the left last season, the Frenchman looks set to resume his role on the right of Amorim’s back three next campaign, leaving Martínez’s spot free to take once he returns
Onana could return for Fiorentina
Having picked up a hamstring injury at the beginning of pre-season, Andre Onana has missed every fixture so far, but has appeared in some non-contact drills, say MEN.
Onana’s injury led United to search for a new goalkeeper, with Jason Wilcox considering both Senne Lammens and Emiliano Martínez, although the Red Devils haven’t made significant progress towards signing a new shotstopper.
It is believed that Onana could return in time to feature against David de Gea’s Fiorentina side, in the last pre-season fixture, just eight days before United’s first Premier League game against Arsenal.
Joshua Zirkzee last played for United in the Europa League final, having rushed himself back from a hamstring injury he suffered against Newcastle, but he picked up another issue at the start of pre-season.
Speaking in midweek, Zirkzee said: “I’ve got a small injury but it shouldn’t take too long to recover now, I’ve got great physios working with me every day.”
“It’s not a serious problem. It’s pre-season so unlike last season where I wanted to push myself to be back for the final, obviously now I just want to be there for the start of the season.”
