Manchester United pursuit of “excellent” star no longer on the cards amid Jadon Sancho transfer breakthrough

Manchester United’s pursuit of an “excellent” player seems no longer on the cards amid a breakthrough in Jadon Sancho’s Juventus move.

Manchester United are gearing up for a major rebuild this summer following a disappointing season and the absence of European football.

Rúben Amorim has already signed Matheus Cunha and Diego Leon, and the club is continuing talks for Bryan Mbeumo, while further arrivals will depend on player sales.

Several outgoings are anticipated, including loanees Marcus Rashford, Antony, and Tyrell Malacia, though the club are finding it difficult to secure buyers.

Jadon Sancho is edging closer to a move to Juventus, while Alejandro Garnacho is also likely to depart, with his preference being to stay in the Premier League.

Sancho to Juventus transfer breakthrough

With Sancho closing in on a move to Italy, Corriere dello Sport have reported that Juventus are now “literally intoxicated” with the English winger.

Juventus see him as a priority summer signing, and they have now struck an agreement of an initial £21.5 million fee plus add-ons for the winger.

Further, Corriere dello Sport’s report indicates that although Sancho is currently asking for a wage package of around £6.9 million a season after tax, there is a likelihood that he will settle for a contract of £5.6 million a season plus bonuses, which would be a breakthrough in negotiations and the final hurdle of the deal.

It has been widely reported that Sancho only has eyes for Juventus, and is willing to do whatever it will take to secure his move to Turin this summer.

United’s Luiz swap deal no longer on the cards

Earlier this week, it was reported that United had agreed to two deals with Juventus – they were willing to take in either the £21.5 million-plus-add-ons deal or a straight swap for midfielder Douglas Luiz.

Luiz had been touted as a possibly “excellent” signing for United, considering his Premier League experience with Aston Villa.

However, with Corriere dello Sport indicating that United have settled on a £21.5 million bid with add-ons, Luiz’s potential move to United seems dead in the water.

Amorim’s side are still focusing on trying to secure Mbeumo from Brentford, with the club hoping for a breakthrough in negotiations this week.
