On Wednesday at Old Trafford, Manchester United and West Ham United will play for a spot in the FA Cup quarterfinals.

The fifth round of the FA Cup will resume this week with Manchester United facing off against West Ham at Old Trafford in order to make it to the final eight of the competition.

Erik ten Hag may not have been selected by the club to be their new manager with the idea of winning a trophy so soon after, but the Dutchman has already made such a significant difference at Old Trafford.

And as a result, the Red Devils have improved tremendously over the past six months, with their most recent victory coming last weekend in the Carabao Cup against Newcastle United. The Red Devils defeated the Magpies thanks to goals from Casemiro and Marcus Rashford, ending United’s six-year trophy drought.

After selecting a solid team for the final last weekend, Ten Hag may decide to change up his starting line-up on Wednesday. David de Gea may be replaced by either Tom Heaton or Jack Butland, the latter of whom has yet to make his debut after joining on loan from Crystal Palace in January.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Victor Lindelof, Tyrell Malacia, and captain Harry Maguire might all start against West Ham. The pair of Lisandro Martinez and Rapha Varane could start on the bench in order to provide rest in what is a busy and continuous schedule for the players.

Diogo Dalot did start against Newcastle on Sunday but could be benched alongside Luke Shaw in preparation for the game against Liverpool.

Casemiro, who opened the scoring against Newcastle, will likely stay in the midfield, and if Fred is ruled unable to play, either Marcel Sabitzer or Scott McTominay could replace the Brazilian. A Sabitzer-McTominay midfield duo is also possible in order for Casemiro to get enough rest for the North-west derby.

Jadon Sancho and Alejandro Garnacho could be given starts against the Hammers as Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes could be given vital and much-needed rests ahead of Sunday’s game, although considering Fernandes’ importance to the side, Ten Hag may opt to leave him in the team.

Wout Weghorst would be the most likely pick at the No. 9 spot as Anthony Martial is expected to sit out the fixture through injury.
