Manchester United ‘open talks’ for 25-year-old striker who thinks Rúben Amorim’s club is his perfect transfer

Manchester United have reportedly initiated talks for a 25-year-old striker who views Rúben Amorim’s club as a perfect move for him this summer.

Manchester United aims to add much-needed firepower to its squad this summer, following a disappointing 2024/25 campaign that saw the team finish 15th in the Premier League. A lack of goals proved to be a major issue throughout the season.

Bruno Fernandes topped the club’s scoring charts with 19 goals, followed by Alejandro Garnacho and Amad, who netted 11 each. Rasmus Højlund added 10, but no other player reached double figures across all competitions.

United have already completed a £62.5 million deal for Matheus Cunha and remain optimistic about securing Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo, despite Tottenham’s late attempt to sign the Cameroon international.

At the same time, the search for a new centre-forward continues. While Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyökeres had been a key target, the Swedish striker now appears to prefer a move to Arsenal, prompting United to explore alternative options in the market.

Dusan Vlahović pushing for a move

Following the setback of United’s pursuit of Gyökeres, the club have had to rethink their striker signing strategy. The most recent name to emerge as a candidate to lead the line next season is Juventus’ Dušan Vlahović.

According to FootballTransfers, Vlahović’s camp has approached United with talks opened, as the player is pushing for a dream move to the Premier League. He is said to view United as the perfect next step in his career, motivated by the prospect of playing in a more physical league.

The 25-year-old is entering his final year of his contract at Juventus, and with him reportedly earning £320,000 per week, the Turin club is eager to get his large salary off their books.

FootballTransfers claim Serbian striker is available for around £38 million this summer, and with United’s budget being so tight, this cut-price fee could prove ideal for INEOS as they look to oversee a major overhaul of the squad this summer.

Would Vlahović work at United?

Renowned for his strength and physicality at Fiorentina and Juventus, the Serbian striker appears to be the ideal type of striker that United should target, given the physical nature of the Premier League.

While the 25-year-old hasn’t lived up to the expectations Juventus had when he made the £60 million switch from Florence to Turin, he is still young enough to rediscover his form and show what won him Serie A’s Young Player of the Season award.

Wages will be a significant sticking point for any potential move, and with United looking to restructure their weekly wage bill, Vlahović would likely have to take a substantial pay cut.

However, it’s significant that the 25-year-old’s camp was the one that approached United, not the other way round, so the forward is eager to join the club, and could be willing to reduce his wages to walk out at Old Trafford next season.
