Manchester United were ‘offered’ Premier League transfer, but INEOS rejected for one key reason
Manchester United were offered the chance to sign a Premier League defender but INEOS have their focus elsewhere.
United finished the 2023/24 season with an FA Cup final victory over Manchester City but their eighth-place Premier League finish was far from ideal.
Erik ten Hag’s future is still in the air while INEOS aim to strengthen the playing squad this summer for the Dutchman or a new manager.
One of the key positions which needs additions is central defence, particularly after Raphaël Varane’s departure.
It has been well reported that Jarrad Branthwaite is the priority signing in this position, with United hoping that Everton bring down their £60-80 million asking price.
A new report from CaughtOffside has claimed that United were offered the chance to sign Tosin Adarabioyo after his contract at Fulham ran out.
However, it was explained that their priority remains a move for Branthwaite, provided his asking price comes down.
Interestingly, recent reports have also claimed that United were looking to sign two centre-backs in the summer window.
There was clear interest from United in Adarabioyo as well. However, the 26-year-old now looks set on a move to Chelsea this summer instead.
Branthwaite will likely be heading to Germany to compete in Euro 2024 with England, and it seems unlikely that his future will be decided before then.
