Raphaël Varane reveals the secret behind Man United’s ‘perfect’ FA Cup final plan
Raphaël Varane has revealed the secret behind Manchester United’s ‘perfect’ plan for the FA Cup final against Manchester City.
Manchester United triumphed 2-1 over Manchester City in the FA Cup final at Wembley, winning the trophy for the first time since 2016.
Alejandro Garnacho opened the scoring for the Reds, capitalizing on a defensive error to score into an open net.
Kobbie Mainoo extended United’s lead before halftime, finishing off a brilliant team move with an assist from Bruno Fernandes.
Despite a late goal from Jérémy Doku that added pressure, United held on to secure the victory and lift the cup.
It was a tactical masterclass from Erik ten Hag at Wembley and Raphaël Varane has explained how the manager worked alongside the players to work out the ‘perfect’ plan for the game.
“Everyone believed, everyone was ready to fight for the team, the plan was perfect, we made it with the manager, together,” he told club reporters.
“And everyone was ready to do the job. At the end, well, we deserved to win.”
Varane was tremendous at the back alongside Lisandro Martínez in his final game for the club. He will leave on a free transfer when his contract expires at the end of the month.
The Old Trafford supporters gave the French centre-back a wonderful reception in the last Premier League home game against Newcastle. Although he was not available for that game, he made it in time to start the final.
Again, the fans pushed the team on at Wembley, and Varane was delighted with them.
“That’s amazing, that’s united, that’s love,” he said of the support. “Everyone is happy and excited, so we’re going to celebrate properly, and yeah, I’m just emotional.”
