Manchester United make decision on Nicolas Jackson, with Chelsea transfer depending on one huge factor

Manchester United have made a decision on one of their striker targets, with the deal depending on one important factor.

Manchester United have been on the hunt for a new striker since the beginning of the transfer window, as they look to complete their fresh-faced front three.

Ruben Amorim’s first two summer signings were the eagerly anticipated Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, who have joined the 15th-placed Premier League side as they try to rid their attacking woes.

The Red Devils have been linked with a whole host of names so far, but no rumours have come close to fruition as of yet. With under six weeks left in the window, only a few options remain for United.

Remaining options include Benjamin Sesko and Ollie Watkins, but a new £80 million name has popped up in recent days.

United make Jackson decision

Since the arrival of Joao Pedro and Liam Delap, Nicolas Jackson’s place in the Chelsea squad now has an air of ambiguity surrounding it.

As reported by Sky Sports, via Football Insider, the Blues want over £80 million for their Senegalese striker, which is too high for Amorim’s side as things stand.

Also stated by Football Insider, United will only make a move for Jackson if the price is right. This would likely lead to a similar style negotiation to the one that United just endured with Brentford.

Unless the Reds were able to advance their summer exodus to acquire more financial resources, it is unlikely that this deal could go ahead.

Where does this leave United?

With United’s limited funds being a problem area for the remainder of the window, the Reds have to be savvy regarding where they spend their money, unless they make some substantial sales.

Amorim made it very clear after his first pre-season fixture against Leeds United that his midfield needs some improvement. Despite this, the club are still prioritising a new striker.

With each of Sesko, Watkins, and Jackson costing upwards of £40 million, United will have to rely on sales if they are to also obtain a new goalkeeper and a new midfielder.

It will be interesting to see how this develops in the coming weeks, and what approach Amorim’s side takes as they look to close the gap on England’s elites.
