Manchester United have ramped up their interest in one of Europe’s most exciting young defenders, following his side’s UEFA Champions League clash.
Manchester United look set to improve a host of different areas in their squad next summer, and they have now joined the race for a £40million-rated full-back.
Michael Carrick’s side have looked rejuvenated in an attacking sense this campaign, with the likes of Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha both finding their feet at Old Trafford.
Although the Reds have looked far stronger since their former midfielder arrived on the touchline, there are still areas of their squad that will need assessing in the summer.
It is almost a certainty that United will dabble in the midfielder market during the summer transfer window, but they could also be due to improve their defensive depth.
United ramp up Brown interest
As reported by TEAMtalk, the Reds could look to improve their depth at full-back next summer, with young defender Nathaniel Brown being targeted.
The 22-year-old German defender is widely viewed as one of Europe’s most exciting defensive talents, and has been on the radar of multiple Premier League clubs.
United stepped up their interest by sending senior scouts to Germany on Wednesday to watch the Eintracht Frankfurt star in action against Tottenham Hotspur.
It is said that any deal for Brown is likely to cost north of £40million, with the German outfit braced for significant interest from England’s top-flight.
United depth necessary
If there is ever a time at Old Trafford that exercises the necessity of defensive depth, it is now, given the recent injury sustained by Patrick Dorgu.
The young, in-form Dane is out for around 10 weeks due to a hamstring injury, which has left the Reds with only one senior left-back at their disposal.

With only the Premier League to focus on, the Reds should be able to get by without additional depth at full-back, although if they are to achieve their goal of reaching the Champions League, then this may be a different story next season.
Finally, if Dorgu is to continue playing more as a winger for United, then this will further beckon the need for a new left-back; they will run the risk of overworking Luke Shaw, who has done excellently to put his horrific injuries behind him.
